Mangusta open yachts are proving popular in the US where cruising around Florida and the Hamptons prove perfect territory for the Italian brand. P1 climbs aboard
Readers of P1 are known for their love of speed, and getting from A to B in style and refined comfort. They are also predisposed to yacht ownership, so we feel it is our duty to inform them of the recent sales successes of the super-swift Mangusta fleet from Overmarine Group.
Mangusta is a world leader in maxi open yachts, which are ideal for the North American market where mission distances tend to be relatively short (around Miami) and where the hydro-jet propulsion engines allow sailing in shallow waters (such as the Hamptons).
With more than 300 yachts sold in 30 years, Overmarine Group has pioneered the construction of fast maxi open yachts which combine speed and comfort with Italian style and design.
The current Mangusta range features Maxi Opens from 72 to 215 ft, and recent sales in the States were of the Mangusta 165 and 94.
Ten 165s have now been sold worldwide, with the 50m yacht able to reach speeds of 40 knots – making it the fastest in its class. Hull number 10 features new the ‘evo’ aesthetics – with more aggressive, muscular lines and new glazing on the main deck, a single pane of glass in the salon and a more elongated flybridge. Enhanced propulsion sees lighter, more efficient engines achieving better performance and fuel consumption 35% lower at 20 and 30 knots.
At just under 30 metres in length, the Mangusta 94 makes the most of its deck space, with large sunbathing and sundeck areas. Fitted with the same 2600hp engines as larger models, including the 165, the Mangusta 94 makes light work of any trip.
Need something more expansive? Overmarine has introduced the ocean-going Mangusta Oceano line, with 42m and 46m vessels currently under construction in the 10 production facilities in Italy – which handle every stage of production and finish.
Recent sales in the US have been attributed in part to the establishment of a branch office in Miami – an investment that is reaping rewards as the brand’s values and smart segment targeting seem to be making favourable waves.
